Founder Chang-Hung grew up in northern Taiwan and developed his relationship with farming through visits to his family home in the south, followed by farm stays during a long journey. Those experiences shaped I Am Ugly but Natural+ as a bridge between farms and the table. The brand works with Taiwanese agricultural ingredients grown without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, turning them into foods, desserts, teas and processed products such as dried fruit, jams and distinctive drinks. Its activities also introduce wild plants including beggar ticks, black sweet potato leaves and sweet potato leaves through gathering and cooking. Mixed planting is used to create a diverse habitat, while the brand’s material stories extend to Job’s tears, described through its shell-like colour, natural hollow centre and teardrop form, as well as its use in Indigenous beadwork.
