Founded in Taiwan in 2019, Yamamoto Leather is led by the Japanese-Taiwanese designer Yamamoto, whose craft background began with dismantling vintage bags and making and repairing leather goods for more than a decade. The brand’s guiding idea, “reviving the beauty of yesteryear,” brings Taiwanese local aesthetics and Japanese artisan techniques into leather goods built around the traditional metal clasp. Its range includes clasp wallets, long wallets, card holders, clasp cases, and everyday bags. Leather is paired with vintage deadstock clasp hardware sourced from Taiwanese hardware makers, while some clasp frames are designed and developed in-house. Every item is handmade without plastic materials, and packaging uses recyclable paper boxes. The brand also makes a colorless horse-oil leather conditioner for various leather goods, excluding suede.
