Founded in New Taipei City in 2011 by K and A, Southgate 南登機口 makes canvas footwear through Taiwanese shoemaking. Its design begins with clothing silhouettes and uses subtraction to remove unnecessary decoration, pairing a clean everyday appearance with the comfort associated with athletic shoes. The range includes lace-up shoes, slip-ons, casual shoes, insoles, and bags. Selected styles use cotton canvas uppers, rubber soles, rubber toe caps, or ribbed sole sections, while some slip-on designs eliminate laces for easier wear. The insoles focus on moisture absorption, breathability, odor resistance, and elasticity. The founders personally oversee pattern making, sample review, and mass production. The name comes from K’s hometown of Southgate, whose clear lakes, intersecting country paths, mountains, and roads inform the brand’s restrained visual language.
