丸木作 Wanmuzuo

丸木作 grew from a traditional woodworking factory founded by the owner’s father in Nantun, Taichung. Founder Tu Geng-yuan began learning fine woodworking there as a child, surrounded by sawdust, sanding sounds and spray guns. He established Wanmuzuo in 2020, when the pandemic slowed the factory and prompted him to rethink how furniture could enter everyday life. Its catalogue includes TV cabinets, bedside tables, shoe cabinets, storage cabinets, bookcases, dressing tables, appliance cabinets, entryway cabinets and drawer chests, alongside custom furniture. Designs use solid-wood bodies, slatted doors, drawers and curved details. One custom appliance cabinet uses New Zealand pine, Taiwanese Chuan Hu soft-close slides and hinges, with a full polyurethane finish. Tu handles material selection, construction, painting, assembly and final packing himself, keeping the forms restrained while placing detail in the wood texture, curves and storage structure.
